claude-botandClaude Opus 5.5 4ac20a5c3f docs(proposal): Traefik VIP survives an ECMP node switch (Maglev + DSR)
ci/woodpecker/pr/ci-scripts-test Pipeline was successful
ci/woodpecker/pr/ci-manifests-test Pipeline was successful
Long-lived connections through the Traefik VIP get RST from the node that
does not hold the flow. The proposal records the Hubble evidence and moves
the Traefik Service to externalTrafficPolicy: Cluster on Cilium Maglev + DSR,
staged in two PRs with a live test.

hermes-bot 538a968edb test(hermes): raise dashboard WS ping interval to 60s
ci/woodpecker/pr/ci-scripts-test Pipeline was successful
ci/woodpecker/pr/ci-manifests-test Pipeline was successful
The dashboard console's /api/pty and /api/events WebSockets close
together every ~12-23 s (Traefik durations 18.9/21.8/22.7/22.8 s on
2026-10-19 11:14-11:19Z), the browser reports code 1006 and shows
"Please wait while the conversation loads…". The TUI process and
/api/status stay healthy meanwhile. The only ~20 s server timer found is
uvicorn's WS keepalive (dashboard.ws_ping_interval, default 20 s).

Diagnostic change: if socket lifetimes move to ~60 s the keepalive is
implicated; if they stay at ~20 s it is ruled out. Set via init container
like dashboard.trusted_proxies since there is no env equivalent.

hermes-bot 2d2959f32a fix(hermes): request offline_access so the dashboard session refreshes
ci/woodpecker/pr/ci-scripts-test Pipeline was successful
ci/woodpecker/pr/ci-manifests-test Pipeline was successful
The dashboard logged out exactly ~60 min after every login
(dashboard-auth.log: session_rejected reason=no_cookie at login+60m).
Hermes' self-hosted OIDC provider defaults to "openid profile email" and
the Authentik hermes-provider mapped only those scopes. Since authentik
2024.2 a refresh token is issued only when the client requests
offline_access and the provider has the offline_access scope mapping, so
Hermes never got one and could not rotate the session when the ID-token
cookie expired.

- authentik blueprint: add the managed scope-offline_access mapping to
  hermes-provider (refresh_token grant was already enabled).
- hermes: HERMES_DASHBOARD_OIDC_SCOPES adds offline_access.

hermes-bot c659cc2bd6 feat(wiki): wiki.renner.uno on plain Traefik, the gate and header trust go
review-bot reviewed: comment
ci/woodpecker/pr/ci-scripts-test Pipeline was successful
ci/woodpecker/pr/ci-manifests-test Pipeline was successful
Stage 3 of 3. Merge only after konairius/Wiki feat/oidc-login is running
(Deployment image newer than build.1790322994 and `wiki-79948db4c6` gone):
the current image has no login of its own, so on plain Traefik its UI
would be open to the LAN.

- Ingress `wiki`: ingressClassName traefik instead of authentik-gate.
  authentik-gate-sync's sweep then deletes what it generated for the gate
  (Ingress/Service/CNP wiki-gate in ai, CNP gate-ai-wiki-c9ba6b in
  authentik, the ai-wiki-c9ba6b outpost, application and provider). One
  proxy layer fewer: Traefik -> wiki.
- Deployment: the Auth__ReverseProxy__TrustedProxies entries go. They were
  a hand copy of the Talos podSubnets, and the OIDC image no longer reads
  them.
- Middleware wiki-api-strip-identity goes. No header names a user any
  more; wiki-index.renner.uno keeps BasicAuth.
- Comments in ai-ns.yaml and the Authentik blueprint follow.

The `wiki` CNP already admits Traefik on 8080, and the ai namespace egress
already reaches Traefik, so auth.renner.uno (OIDC discovery, JWKS, token)
needs no new rule.

hermes-bot 13a7ad1c06 feat(wiki): Authentik OIDC application for the wiki's own login
ci/woodpecker/pr/ci-scripts-test Pipeline was successful
review-bot reviewed: approve
ci/woodpecker/pr/ci-manifests-test Pipeline was successful
Stage 1 of 3 for moving the wiki off proxy-header identity
(konairius/Wiki feat/oidc-login).

The wiki took the username from X-Authentik-Username for any peer in the
pod CIDR, so any pod that may reach :8080 (Hermes, Gitea, Traefik, all of
ai and monitoring) could claim a human's name. Authentik's proxy provider
sends no signed identity header, so the wiki now signs humans in itself
with OpenID Connect and takes the username from the verified ID token.

- Blueprint: OAuth2 provider "Wiki" (public client `wiki`, PKCE,
  authorization_code, RS256 self-signed key, openid+profile) and
  application `wiki` (issuer https://auth.renner.uno/application/o/wiki/),
  redirect URI https://wiki.renner.uno/signin-oidc. No policy binding,
  the same audience as today's gate, which has no group annotation.
- Deployment: Auth__Oidc__Authority and Auth__Oidc__ClientId. The running
  image ignores them; the OIDC image refuses to start without them, which
  is why this lands first.

Order: this PR, then konairius/Wiki feat/oidc-login (Flux image
automation rolls it; it works behind the existing gate, since the gate
session makes the OIDC round trip silent), then the stacked PR that
moves wiki.renner.uno off the authentik-gate class.

talosctl: os:reader through Talos's Kubernetes API access.
cluster.yaml enables machine.features.kubernetesTalosAPIAccess for
namespace hermes, role os:reader; already applied to k8s-1, k8s-2,
k8s-3 with `talosctl patch machineconfig --mode=no-reboot`, one node at
a time with `talosctl health` between. The talos.dev ServiceAccount
hermes-talos gets Secret hermes-talos (key config), mounted at
/var/run/secrets/talos.dev with TALOSCONFIG pointing at it. Egress to
host/remote-node :50000 (Service default/talos endpoints are the node
InternalIPs).

bao: policy hermes (read on homelab/apps/hermes/*) and Kubernetes-auth
role hermes for SA hermes/hermes, applied by hand like
netbird-service-sync (commands in hermes.hcl). BAO_ADDR is the in-cluster
service; CNPs both ways on :8200.

tea: an init container writes config.yml for login hermes-bot from the
mounted Gitea token into an emptyDir at the agent's ~/.config/tea
(subprocess HOME is /opt/data/home), so no token lands on the PVC.

SOUL.md says how to use all three.

## Review Focus
1. **Flux fetch across the transfer.** Flux's GitRepository fetches `k.renner/homelab.git` until the URL change lands. Documented behaviour says this works: source-controller v1.9.5 uses go-git v5.19.1 (its `go.mod`), whose `RedirectPolicy` "mirror[s] Git's http.followRedirects config" with the zero value `initial` (pkg.go.dev); git documents `initial` as following the redirect on the first request and using "the redirected URL as the base for the follow-up requests" (`git-config`, `http.followRedirects`). Gitea's 301 stays on the same host and scheme, so fetch and the IUA push both reach `konairius/homelab`. Fallback only, should that fail: Task 3 has a declared break-glass (suspend the `flux-system` Kustomization so it cannot re-apply the old URL, patch the GitRepository URL to the value the PR sets, resume once the source is Ready on the merge commit), checked by `flux get source git flux-system`.
6. **Write access lost in the transfer.** Any writer that is a konairius org member loses its collaborator grant and keeps only its team permission (`flux` pushes for image automation; claude-bot, issue-fix-bot, security-bot, review-bot, argus-bot, renovate-bot write PRs/reviews). Expect: Task 3 Step 0 snapshot of collaborators, konairius teams and the branch-protection whitelists, compared after Step 1.

Expect: Task 3 Step 0 snapshot of collaborators and the `master` protection, compared after Step 1 (memberships confirmed fine by the owner).
2. **Image automation push between merge and rename (Cut-over 2).** The IUA pushes to `master`; after the Task 5 PR it expects `main`. Expect: IUA suspended for the whole window and resumed only after Flux reports `main`.
3. **Org secrets after the Woodpecker move.** Homelab pipelines use the org secrets `claude_code_oauth_token` and `review_bot_token`; after the move they resolve in `konairius`. Expect: both exist in `konairius` before Cut-over 1 (Task 1 verification).

# Traefik VIP: survive an ECMP node switch (Maglev + DSR)
## Problem
Long-lived connections through the Traefik VIP (`10.2.99.86` / `fd99::86`)
die with a TCP RST from the VIP side. Most visible on the Hermes dashboard's
WebSockets (`/api/pty`, `/api/events`, `/api/ws`), which drop every few
seconds to minutes; every other service behind the VIP is exposed the same way.
## Evidence (2026-10-19)
- Traefik Service: `externalTrafficPolicy: Local`, so the VIP is advertised by
BGP only from k8s-2 and k8s-3 (the nodes running a Traefik pod). The UDM runs
`maximum-paths 4` (`unifi/bgp.conf`), i.e. ECMP across both.
- Hubble, live, client `fd02:50::28e1:54c6:cc63:aa61`:
- port 38100: connection established on k8s-2 (Traefik `9k4v8`, ACKs at
13:18:49Z); at 13:28:48Z Traefik `9n2bp` on **k8s-3** sends RST to the
client for that port.
- port 42698 (`2003:d6:974c:7e04:…`): Traefik on k8s-2 sends data
(13:28:43Z `ACK, PSH`) while the client's packets of the same 4-tuple
arrive at k8s-3 (RSTs 13:28:29Z…13:28:57Z, exponential back-off).
- Test WebSocket (`logcli --tail`) 13:15:16Z: client receives
`connection reset by peer` from `[fd99::86]:443` at 13:17:00Z while the
owning Traefik pod (`9k4v8`) keeps the connection until 13:17:28Z.
- BGP sessions stable (91 h uptime on both nodes), no pod restarts.
So packets of one established flow reach a node that does not hold it, and
that node's Traefik resets it. What makes the UDM move a flow is not
established; the design below does not depend on it.
## Why the current setup cannot survive it
With `Local`, each node only knows the connections of its own Traefik pod. A
packet that lands on the other node meets a socket that does not exist → RST.
With `Cluster` in the default SNAT mode it still breaks: the second node picks
a backend and SNATs, but the NAT/conntrack state of the flow lives on the
first node, so the backend sees a different source and the client a foreign
connection.
## Proposal
1. Cilium (`infrastructure/cilium/helmrelease.yaml`):
```yaml
loadBalancer:
algorithm: maglev # same 5-tuple → same backend on every node
mode: dsr # backend replies straight to the client; no reply-path state on the ingress node
dsrDispatch: opt # native routing; IPv4 option / IPv6 destination-option header
maglev:
hashSeed: <12 random bytes, base64> # identical on all agents
```
`hashSeed` is not secret but must be stable; it goes in git.
2. Traefik Service: `externalTrafficPolicy: Cluster`. The VIP is then
advertised from all three nodes; whichever node a packet hits, Maglev picks
the same Traefik pod and DSR forwards it there, keeping the client source IP
(DSR is the documented source-IP-preserving option for `Cluster`).
`mode: dsr` (not `hybrid`) so UDP/443 (HTTP/3) also keeps the client IP;
`hybrid` would SNAT UDP.
## Documented limits (Cilium v1.20 docs)
- Maglev "increases the probability that all nodes select the same endpoint for
the same flow" — consistent hashing, not a guarantee, and only for N-S traffic
([BGP operation](https://docs.cilium.io/en/v1.20/network/bgp-control-plane/bgp-control-plane-operation/)).
A backend change (Traefik rollout) can still move a minority of flows.
- DSR encodes the service in the TCP SYN only; whether a mid-flow packet that
lands on a node that never saw the SYN reaches the right backend is not
stated in the docs. It is the property this change exists for, so it is the
first thing the rollout tests.
- `dsrDispatch: opt` reduces the effective MTU for node-to-node forwarded
packets (option header). `geneve` is the alternative if IP options cause
trouble.
- Changing the global `loadBalancer.mode` on a running cluster is not
documented as hitless; treat the agent roll as disruptive for connections
through LoadBalancer services.
- The mode is global: every LoadBalancer Service gets DSR. Services that stay on
`Local` keep their current behaviour (no cross-node forwarding).
- [kube-proxy-free: Maglev, DSR, Limitations](https://docs.cilium.io/en/v1.20/network/kubernetes/kubeproxy-free/)
## Rollout
1. PR 1, Cilium values only. Agents roll one node at a time
(`maxUnavailable: 1`); wait for Cilium health and Ceph `HEALTH_OK` between
nodes. Traefik stays on `Local`, so nothing forwards cross-node yet. Verify
`cilium-config`: `bpf-lb-algorithm=maglev`, `bpf-lb-mode=dsr`.
2. PR 2, Traefik `externalTrafficPolicy: Cluster`. Verify the VIP is advertised
from all three nodes (`cilium-dbg shell bgp/routes`) and that client IPs in
Traefik's access log are still real client addresses (v4 and v6), not node
IPs.
3. Test: hold a WebSocket through the VIP and watch Hubble on all three nodes
for RSTs to the client from a non-owning node, as in the evidence above.
Success = no RST from a node that does not hold the flow; Hermes dashboard
logs no `keepalive ping timeout`.
Rollback: revert PR 2 (back to `Local`), then PR 1.
## Not chosen
- UDM `net.ipv6.fib_multipath_hash_policy=1` / resilient hashing: would address
the move itself but lives outside git on the UDM and does not cover a node
failure. Complementary, not a substitute.
- Client `net.core.txrehash=0`: per client, not a fix.
- A single advertising node: removes ECMP and with it the redundancy the BGP
pool exists for.
